Clinical Assurance
Giving Physicians Comprehensive Assessment of their Clinical Aptitude
Physicians are trusted agents in our culture, and stand for intelligence, confidence, and responsibility with patients. With this duty, physicians have an obligation to serve others, ethically, competently and in a skillful manner. Physicians are required to demonstrate high levels of cognitive performance, including rapid decisions, complicated thought processes, adept judgment, and intact memory. As professionals age, they are not immune to the inevitable decline in cognitive and memory functioning that is essential to their competence and clinical decision-making. Assuring a physician’s clinical proficiency is a duty we all must accept, and should be done in a supportive and professional manner.
What is the Clinical Proficiency Assurance Program (CPAP)?
The Physicians Clinical Proficiency Assurance Program (CPAP) is a confidential assessment designed specifically for physicians who have experienced a decline in memory, cognitive speed, dexterity or clinical judgment. The program is tailored to the individual physician’s assessment needs, and includes formalized neuro-psychological testing and clinical interviews with a Neuropsychologist and Board-certified Geriatric Psychiatrist.
Program Overview
The CPAP offers a one-day intensive assessment designed to diagnose the nature, range, and causes of the memory issues, including any co-occurring medical or psychiatric disorders. Evaluation components include a comprehensive diagnostic interview, psychological testing, and interview of collateral sources.
At the end of the evaluation, the physician and referral source will receive feedback regarding the medical team’s findings, including any treatment recommendations.
Why Choose the CPAP?
The CPAP provides referral sources and participants with unique resources to help maximize outcomes, including:
- Extensive experience working with hospitals, employers, licensing boards, and professional organizations.
- Intensive evaluations and time-limited interventions that minimize participant life disruption while maximizing treatment options.
- Work with county and state medical associations and hospital medical staff offices to coordinate recommendations and appropriate aftercare.
- Extensive list of behavioral and psychiatric resources for treatment and aftercare.
- A cost effective and local treatment option offering minimal life and career disruption.
